Gifted and Talented Art Program
The Gifted and Talented Art Program at CMS School is a before-school morning program which allows artistically talented 4th & 5th grade students the opportunity to participate in additional art instruction once a week. During this time, the focus is upon enhancing each child's artistic abilities, nurturing and developing their creativity and engaging in a variety of artistic mediums. Students work in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional applications. Opportunities are given to explore famous artists and art history, and the elements and principles of art and design.
The program is designed for students in 4th & 5th grade who exhibit artistic, creative talent with a consistently high degree of self-motivation. Students are nominated by their parents/guardians, art teacher or other teachers. Nominees are given a drawing test on a determined testing date. The process is extremely competitive and a panel of art educators evaluate the tests on a grade-level basis. Parents/Guardians are notified of their child's test results.
The Gifted & Talented Art Program provides unique opportunities for artistic expression and the development of creative and critical thinking. The goal of the program is to provide a variety of interesting and sequential developmental experiences leading to advanced artwork at the next level.
